If you need to beat the traffic on your way to school or work and you like a bit of excitement on your commute then a powered scooter could be just the thing you are hunting for.  Riding one is not that difficult, but it is vital that you take the time to grow some skills before you hit the open street.

Make sure you have the following gear.  Stay safe!

First start the engine. On a gas powered scooter this is ordinarily done with a pull rope.  Electric scooters start when you kick off and begin moving. Look at the instructions for your scooter here.

Ensure you that you have got your location on the scooter right.  Grip the handle bars and position one foot on the scooter deck.  Don't stiffen your body too much and try to keep natural poise.  Accelerate easily and keep your main focus on the direcection you wish to go.

Assume proper position. Avoid leaning ahead in the direction of the handlebars. This is unsafe since the mass on the deck is imbalanced wherein you can obtain accidental injuries with just one bump.  Place your one foot a little ahead of the other with both of them facing forward while driving on the motorized scooter.

Steering. Steer your scooter by rotating the handlebars in the path you want to take and by slightly leaning forward into each bend.

Be familiar with the brake levers. Don't hold the brakes aggressively but instead squeeze it gradually and steadily squeeze to slow it down or stop. To slightly diminish your speed, just take your hand off the throttle.

Knowing your machine makes you a safer and more skilled rider.  Find a large open space you can practice in get to know the controls.  They should grow to be second nature before you ride in public.

Watch your surroundings while driving your scooter.  Since your vehicle is small, larger vehicles might overtake you. Stay safe and go the innermost part of the street.
