The harsh winter is now thankfully behind us and for leisure riders it’s close to the date to get your trusty motorbike out of mothballs and back on the road for a fantastic summer of motorbike riding. Now is the time to rediscover how to ride your two-wheeled pride and joy; the anticipation of being able to ride the open road is bound to soon prove overwhelming, as the days get lighter and the weather improves dramatically. So, as spring starts to get into full swing it’s the ideal time to clean off the accumulated dirt and dust of winter storage and start the procedure towards getting back on the road. Whether your motorbike is a recently purchased expensive manufacturer, a faithful old runabout or something in between it is important to ensure that everything is mechanically safe and sound before setting out on the open road again. First, start with a thorough wash and polish to restore the bike to its former glory. There’s no safety benefit to be gained from doing that, but it will put you back in touch with your beautiful machine. Check your tyres and if necessary inflate them to the recommended pressure; not only will your ride be safer it will also be more fuel efficient with correctly inflated tyres. Next, perform a quick check for any oil leaks. Before moving off ensure that all lights are operating correctly; headlight, brake lights and indicators are essential for safety and if any bulbs are faulty, replace them immediately. Also, before taking to the public roads don’t forget to ensure that your motorbike insurance is in order and that you haven’t overlooked your insurance renewal during the winter months. Then it’s time to set off for a test ride to make sure that everything feels fine and operates according to the owner’s manual. Take it easy at first and get used to being back in the saddle before really opening the throttle. Certainly ensure that your brakes are operating correctly at the very least! But, it’s not just your motorbike that should be checked before summer biking begins. The open road can be a dangerous place even for the most experienced biker and therefore protecting oneself is of paramount importance. Make sure that your motorcycle helmet is still up to the job, is comfortable and offers full vision. For example, any badly scraped or damaged visor or faceguard should be replaced with a new one. What's more, ensuring that you have full body protection is also vital. A spill at any speed can cause significant injury if not wearing appropriate riding leathers and hard-wearing biker’s boots. So, as well as preparing your bike, prepare yourself and be ready to have a great biking summer!

Ever since the internal combustion engine was invented, the road trip has offered a romantic allure for the traveller. But whereas journeying by car merely does the job, travelling by motorbike is associated with the most carefree of all road tripping experiences.

Travel by motorbike offers many things a car deprives us of; first and foremost a much stronger connection with the landscape through which you pass. Motorcyclists often speak fondly of the sounds and smells of the outside world that they enjoy as they pass. This is something that their car driving counterparts tend to miss out on, being confined to the insides of their vehicle.

Motorcyclists' tales of the road have often been shared with armchair travellers in the form of books, films and TV documentaries. One of the most famous motorbike trips to be enjoyed by the mainstream was undertaken by Argentinean-born revolutionary icon, Che Guevara. The image of Guevara's face is said to be the most reproduced image of all time, appearing as a fashion statement on posters, album covers and t-shirts which can be found in student's bedrooms the world over, even though many probably have little idea of Guevara's life and what he stood for.

Guevara wrote many books, but his best known publication, "The Motorcycle Diaries", details a young Guevara as he travels through South America with his friend Alberto Grando on a 1939 Norton 500 motor-cycle. It was the poverty and persecution that he witnessed during his travels that fuelled Guevara's desire to fight and die for the people of the lower classes.

A famous but fictional motorbike road trip story is told through the film "Easy Rider", which features two bikers travelling through the American south to experience the land and its people and explore the American dream. The story follows their adventures as they encounter hippies, narcotics and eventually meet their doom at the hands of red necks, during their search for spiritual freedom.

More recently, the TV series "The Long Way Round" followed the biking adventures of actors Ewan McGregor and Charlie Boorman. The show documented their trip from London to New York which took them across Europe, Ukraine, Russia, Kazakhstan, Mongolia, Siberia and Canada. Viewers were able to share McGregor and Boorman's pain and pleasure, which included incredible scenery, amazing kindness and generosity of strangers, but also breakdowns, crashes, injuries, mosquito bites, and even being threatened at gunpoint. However, with a little help from the locals, and of course a good motorbike insurance policy, McGregor and Boorman survived the incredible journey intact; and the trip inspired the adventurous duo to embark on another biking adventure from John O Groats to South Africa two years later, which was also televised.

A road trip of any sort will always hold a romantic allure for the traveller, but it is a long journey by motorbike which is the ultimate expression of freedom on the road.

All You Need to Know About Motorbike Insurance

Motor Scooter Sales

You have just purchased your new bike and are anxious to ride it, to enjoy the freedom that only a motorcycle can give. Your new machine shines and sparkles in the garage, calling out your name, wanting to take you on the ride of a lifetime. However, you know that you must put aside, for the moment, this anticipated feeling of exhilaration: all because you have no insurance. It’s a fact that most communities in the world today require motorcycle operators and owners to have insurance before driving a motorcycle on public roadways and highways. And even if you are not required to have motorbike insurance it’s a very good idea to have it for your own protection. For example, many motorcycle accidents are caused because the other driver didn’t see the motorcycle. Many vehicle drivers, for whatever reasons, fail to see motorbikes. Having protection for that possibility is in your best interests.Motorbike Insurance Can Be Expensive The truth about motorbike insurance is that it can be expensive, in comparison to automobile insurance. The reason is because within the insurance industry it is believed that riding a motorcycle is more risky than driving a car. And it is for a couple of reasons, the first being our example above. Another reason motorcycle insurance is expensive is that there are a large number of high performance motorcycles on the road today and better ones being produced all the time. A high speed motorcycle mixed with a little showing off can be risky – to the insurance company. And that’s what it comes down to for the motorcycle insurance company. Risk! The more risk they think they must take the more they charge for that risk. Keep in mind that the insurance company is in business to make money, not lose it.Back To School However, there some things you can do to help lower your premium and one of them is to take a motorcycle driving course. Motorcycle driving training, even for the experienced motorcyclist, helps reduce your risk to the insurance company, therefore saving you money. In fact, many motorcycle insurance companies provide discounts to their customers who provide these certificates. Even if you are an experienced motorcyclist and have insurance but are looking to trim the budget a bit, providing a “motorcycle driving course certificate” to your agent might help you find that extra money you are looking for.Targets of Vandalism Another reason motorbike insurance is so expensive is that motorcycles are more susceptible to vandalism and are easier to steal. But here too you can possibly save some money on your insurance by letting your agent know where you plan on storing your motorbike when you’re not riding it. Some insurance companies will give you a discount if they know you keep your motorcycle secured in a garage or storage unit. Even the type of security device you use when your motorcycle is parked in public parking areas can save you money.Weather For some riders the weather can make a huge difference in premium rates. Some riders can only operate their motorcycles during certain times of the year. Motorcycles are very enjoyable being rode under the warm sun on a mid-spring afternoon, but impossible to ride during the cold and snowy winter months. If this should be case with you talk to your insurance agent. Let him know the months you plan on riding your motorcycle. Some motorbike insurance companies may be able to attach a “rider” to your policy that starts the coverage on a certain day and ends it on a certain day. You’ll only be paying for the coverage you need, not the whole year.

In several parts of the world, it is legal obligation for buying it. There are some safety precautions that you have to follow when you do some activities, and riding motorcycles at slow speeds is obviously one of the precautions. It is risky riding your motorcycle without using helmet and driving car without using seat belt. Your life is precious but many lives are lost because of ignorant riders thinking that accidents will never happen to them. When you go to motorcycle accessories then you might be confused by seeing wide range of helmets.

There are 4 several types of motorbike helmets available. The first is full face helmet which is ideal for persons who require better protection. These helmets provide full cover to your face along hinged visor. The full face helmets are perfect for providing from elements. It also provides great protection when an accident happens.

The open face motorbike helmet provides lower degree of protection. You can find that it will not provide protection to your chin. It is usually worn including goggles or visor that depends on the rider preference. It provides the rider feel more exposed therefore it is preferred for those looking for having freedom in riding experience.

There are lots of off road helmets available. These are used for taking part in motocross and other sports. These 4 types of helmets are available in USA and many countries. Some aspects are significant for considering while selecting your helmets. Some bikers believe in softer polycarbonate DOT only authorized helmets that allow higher degree of protection. The principle is that the strong snell rated helmets in reality provide more impact for your head although the DOT approved helmets follow light criterion and has few flexibility for assimilating the stock.

Selecting the correct helmet will be easy if it is a plain thing for choosing its size and colour. The other models or ever assorted brands inside equal brand mark could get assorted fell and fit and price doesn't depend on it because few cheapest helmets will fell and fit fine than costlier helmets. Lot of motorcyclists will not recognize that apart from size motorbike helmets get into assortment of several internal forms. Shape is the important aspect to consider while buying helmet. Helmets are costly and if you want to buy one it should be of good quality, nice fitting and should be within your budget. Today, people are buying online without checking that helmet is better or not. It takes about 60 minutes of riding for ascertaining that motorbike helmet would give satisfactory comfort level. The bottom line is, wearing a helmet is a must for all motorbike riders.

There are several circumstances that will make you to wear helmets. Wearing Motorbike Helmets should be mandatory. This is one aspect that government should not leave for you to decide. The government has made it mandatory to wear seat belt while driving an automobile.

They should also make it mandatory for wearing motorbike helmet while riding your motorbike. It will be risky riding motorcycle without helmet and driving car without seat belt. The government should make it mandatory to motorcycle riders wearing helmets as quickly as possible. It is essential that to wear helmet while riding motorcycle law will be passed immediately.

The helmet should be stiff and strong so as to provide best possible protection. If the helmet is very stiff it prevents from brain injury. And if it is very soft it will not prevent from high energy crash. In order to understand how the helmet protects, you should understand how fragile your organs are. For protecting us from all ugly stuff happening we should wear helmets. The motorbike helmets consist of two major parts, the inner liner that is energy absorbing and the outer shell. The inner lining is made up of expanded polystyrene or EPS. The outer shells comes in two basic flavors resin composite like fiberglass, Kevlar and carbon fiber or molded thermoplastic like ABS or polycarbonate. The shell is available for number of reasons. Firstly, it protects against pointy things that try to penetrate the EPS. Secondly, it protects against abrasion. Thirdly, it provides troy lee a smooth and nice surface for painting dragons on. Riders and helmet makers give lot of attention for the outer shell and material. But the part of helmet that absorbs much energy in crash is the inner liner. There is nothing too dangerous than riding motorcycle without correct motorbike helmet.

There are lots of stories from road regarding people taking big spill on motorcycle without using helmet. Usually the riders end up in mess. Using a motorcycle helmet is a matter of using it properly and fitted protective helmet that is fixed to your head whenever you are riding motorcycle. It is not good if you place simply the helmet on the head without settling it properly and fastening that requires to be fastened to correct tightness to your head size and body type. The outer shell of motorbike helmet protects the head from initial impact and undertakes every abrasion on it. The inner shell is a lining of foam that minimizes the impact of shock by absorbing it much. It also provides comfort for the rider. For finding whether the helmet is safe or not you should check whether it contains the Department of Transportation sticker. The safety standard for helmets sticker is accepted by Snell Memorial Foundation. Other than the safety stickers, the other aspect is to ensure that the helmet gives you proper fit. It must not be tight or loose. You should be comfortable with it. Remember that you will be wearing that for some time. The helmets also avoids noise, deflects bugs and debris.

              Comparing the Motorbike Insurance Market

Whether it’s the lure of being able to weave through pesky traffic jams, or simply because it’s a more cost-effective option, many people are swapping their cars for motorbikes. But before you get too carried away with donning your leathers, it’s essential to consider getting your bike insured.

Indeed, in addition to the risk of accidents occurring, motorbike theft is a worrying issue. According to UK Government statistics, out of every 1,000 motorbikes registered on the road, around 37 are stolen. This may not seem high, but when compared to car theft – on average 10 cars per 1,000 registered are swiped – it’s a lot!

Motorcycle insurance explained

Generally speaking, there are three different types of motorbike insurance: Fully Comprehensive; Third Party Fire & Theft (TPFT); and Third Party Only (TPO). As with car insurance, TPO is the most basic package you can legally opt for and will protect you financially against any damage or personal injury caused to a third party.

TPFT, on the other hand, will provide coverage for your bike should it be stolen or damaged by fire, as well as including third party protection. It may be also possible to find insurance companies that will protect your motorbike against vandalism or severe weather damage.

In order to be covered against the eventuality that you damage your own bike, or are in an accident that is your fault, you will need to look at taking out Fully Comprehensive insurance. This is the highest level policy you can opt for and will provide you with the most inclusive coverage.

How to get the best deal

To get the best policy for your needs, it’s well worth carrying out a motorbike insurance comparison. Thorough research will not only provide you with a comprehensive overview of the market, but will also allow you to search for the most cost-effective packages.

Trying to compare all the different types of insurance can be very time consuming though. That’s why it can be a good idea to use one of the many motorbike insurance comparison websites out there. On top of presenting you with a detailed view of all the deals available, they can provide you with a quote in minutes.

Motorbike Helmet stock has a variety of motorbike helmets to suit your needs as well as clothing, leathers, boots, gloves and various other items that you may find interesting. You can browse the categories on the internet to find the product you are looking for. Whether it is helmets or other products such as motorbike gloves, motorbike boots, motorbike leathers or clothing, the aim is to offer you something that you need.

How to buy a motorbike helmet, for a newer rider? Buying a helmet may be more daunting task than choosing a motorbike. Unless he or she has studied the subject, or had asked a lot of people for information, and had done some window-shopping, the matter may be an afterthought at the end of a bike sale or something that you have to rush to get done before riding the used motorbike you are buying. Doing so can make you feel the riding experience substantially less enjoyable than if you get a helmet that fits properly on your head. As a result, you may simply buy a helmet that looks like you want it to or one that the dealer suggests. Even an experienced rider who is just replacing an old helmet may find the process intimidating and difficult. You may not even be sure what size to ask for. Friends may offer advice about fit or comfort that isn’t true in your case because your head is different. There is a maze of certifications and features, which you are not sure about. Let’s stop and discuss the claims that you are more likely to get in if you are wearing a helmet.

All studies from U. S. and other places in the world indicate that riders who wear helmets crash less frequently and suffer less injuries and deaths if they met with any crash. They are less likely to suffer long-term or permanent disability caused by head or neck injuries. By cutting down ambient wind noise, helmets can actually help you hear other sounds better. By reducing fatigue from the wind, they keep you more alert. By protecting your eyes from the wind, they allow you to see well. A full-face helmet can keep you from being distracted when a large insect hits your face. In addition, if you brought a bright-colored visible one then you will be more comfort to see and the motorist would avoid you. A helmet is of no use if it doesn’t provide protection, and that D.O.T. (U.S. department of transportation) sticker on the back is your assurance. A helmet is also no good if it doesn’t stay on when you get off unexpectedly. You should check if the helmet you are trying to wear would stay on your head using a simple test. Then grab the rear of the helmet and try to lift it up and roll it forward off your head. Even when it hurts, you should not be able to get the helmet off. This is more likely to be an issue on half helmets or open-face helmets, but we have seen some full-coverage chinbar-style helmets that failed this roll-off test on some riders.

The National Traffic Safety Administration says that motorcyclists receive low injuries and survive a crash when they wear a Motorbike Helmet. They tell that about 600 people are saved every year. Autopsy studies have shown that neck injuries and fractures are very equally likely, whether wearing helmet or not. Most medical reports support using motorcycle helmets. They believe that helmet decreases the brain and head injuries significantly and conclude that wearing helmets does not increase your neck injury.

An Italian study concluded that helmet reduces injuries by 66%. The Thailand study found that by making motorbike helmets mandatory, head injuries have decreased by 41% in two years. Now, in Kentucky, study showed that brain injury is increased by 4.3 times when not using helmet. In the article by Jonathan P. Goldstein, Phd titled as The Effects of Motorcycle Helmet Use on the Probability of Fatality and the Severity of Head and Neck Injuries, he concluded that there are various variables in study that makes the study in question. Normal results shows injury rates and death are 2 and 3 time greater for non helmet riders and increase in rates of occurrence in repeal years from 19% - 63%. The helmet verses the non helmet study fail to consider the two classes of riders. They State that the helmet riders will be more cautious by nature.

Firstly, they drive slowly and have slower speed in crash situation. Secondly, they will be less likely to get accident. Thirdly, helmet wearers will be less likely to drink and drive. The factors to consider are the average age of biker, secondly, average miles droved every year per biker thirdly, average experience of biker, fourthly, the motorcycle size. Therefore, alcohol ingestion, risk taking, age, potential speed, between the sizes of bike, simply cannot prove realistically use of helmet.

The Goldstein study approached these variables. They offered a study that evaluates the use of motorbike helmets in accident situation. The conclusions are:-

Motorbike helmets do not have much effect on probability of fatality. Helmets reduce the head injuries. Past the critical impact speed of about 13 mph helmets increase the severity of neck injury.

The report concluded that helmet users face trade off in between reductions in head injuries and increase in neck injuries. There are other choices required to be considered for providing safety in riding motorcycle. Firstly, educate the general public of driving in road use of motorcycles. Secondly, educate inexperienced motorbike riders for avoiding accidents and using properly these powerful machines. Thirdly, create strict enforcement for drunken driving laws. The first motorbike was invented in 1885 by Gottlieb Daimler. It was not manufactured for speed. And as speed was not a factor nobody thought of motorbike helmets. But as the speed of motorbikes increased, number of accidents increased. Then the University of Southern California USC developed motorcycle helmet for absorbing the shock of impact. Along the layer of comfort in the helmet, it has another layer that not only absorbed but spread the energy caused by impact.

It depends on the individual choice as to what appeals to everyone the most. Each one of us has some passion or the other and for those who love adventure, what else could be bigger than getting a motorbike for them. If you lack the money to buy one, motorbike loans are the easy source of money for the purpose.

Motorbike loans are available to the borrowers who are intent on buying a motorbike and do not have the required amount for the same. Money is available to buy a new bike or a used bike as per their wish. The borrower may even want to buy a bike that has been personalized by a designer and usually is priced higher.

Through Motorbike loans, the borrower can take up the money in any form he likes. If he wants a lower interest rate and is ready to pledge an asset for it, then the secured form of the loans can be borrowed. The total cost of the bike will be meted out to the borrower to pay to the dealer. The borrower will have to pledge any asset, preferably the bike itself with the lender as the collateral for the loan. This will fetch him a lower rate of interest and less burden will be caused at time of repayment.

If the borrower does not want to pledge his motorbike as collateral, unsecured form of motorbike loans will be the most suitable for him. He will have to pay a higher rate of interest for the money borrowed. Lower rates can be obtained by him through proper research for a good lender who is ready to compromise on the loan deal.

Repayment term for motorbike loans is 5-7 years and repayment is to be made through monthly installments paid to the lender. Bad credit borrowers can also take up these loans to buy a bike for themselves. By timely repayment of the money, they can even improve their credit history status.

It is now in the hands of the borrower if he actually wants to realize his dream to own a bike. Motorbike loans are always at the side of the borrower to be borrowed

Motorbike or motorcycle insurance is something you legally have to have if you are riding a motorbike on a public road. Alternatively you obviously need moped insurance or scooter insurance if riding a scooter or moped!
The process of getting motorbike insurance is seldom fun and can be a bit of a chore, but the way to make it more rewarding is by thinking that if you put in a bit of effort and do it properly, the right motorcycle insurance policy will save you a stack of cash.
Getting a Quote
You will need to start by deciding which providers of motorbike insurance you will get a quote from, how you will find them and how many bike insurance quotes you are going to get. Generally around half a dozen motorcycle insurance quotes should be enough, and the other decision you need to make is do you use the internet or the telephone (or both).
The most popular way of obtaining the quotes is to use the web to get quotes initially and then follow up with a phone call to the two or three bike insurance quotes you favour. The web is also a good way of choosing who to contact in the first place; simply google / motorbike insurance / bike insurance / motorcycle insurance / moped insurance / scooter insurance, or another search engine of your choice, and you will have no end of bike insurance providers to click through to.
Click through to about six in turn (the exact figure you choose is up to you). The boring bit is you will have to fill different motorcycle insurance quote forms in each time, asking the same information.
Remember to be prepared and have any information you need to hand as in order to provide you with an accurate motorbike insurance quote various items are required - details of any convictions you have, any accidents or claims, how much no claims bonus etc etc. All of these things affect motorbike insurance premiums but can be found on your driving licence or existing policy documents.
What's included in the motorcycle insurance quote - other benefits.
Once you have got the number of quotes, make a short list of, say, three, providers to call but you need to decide how you are going to choose them. Besides choosing on price you need to take into account that different bike insurance quotes may or may not include extras. Examples are 'riding other bikes', enabling you to ride your mate's bike, breakdown cover, legal assistance cover and whether you have equivalent cover to ride abroad. Some motorbike insurance providers include these as standard, others offer them as optional extras.
Type of cover and excess
You will need to make a choice as to what type of cover you want. Comprehensive is not always as expensive as you might expect but can come with a high excess. Third Party Fire and Theft is worth considering if your bike is a few years old and Third Party Only if it is worth less than 1000 pounds as the excess starts to become a significant proportion of the bike's value.
The excess is the amount deducted from the payment of any claim that you make - it is the amount that you have to pay.
Calling the Provider
So you have your shortlist. You now need to confirm all the details of your motorbike insurance quote over the phone with them, both the cost and what benefits are included in the price; occasionally the price given over the internet mysteriously increases when you ring through.
Choosing your Motorcycle Insurance Provider
Having confirmed all the details and spoken to all on your shortlist you now need to make a final choice.
The most sensible criteria to use are:
(i) Price (obviously!)
(ii) What benefits are included
(iii) How they came across when you spoke to them? How experienced/professional did they come across and what sort of attitude did they have? Did they inspire confidence?
Clearly how you weigh up these three criteria is up to you, as is the final decision!
Conclusion
Finding a motorbike insurance provider is an important though unfortunately an unexciting task. If you apply a method to it as described above then you can be confident that you have done it properly and made an informed and correct choice.

With all the frequent changes to motoring legislation and regulations, it may seem more difficult to figure out what you need to do to ride a motorbike in the UK than it is to actually pass the required tests. So I will attempt to break down the required tests and certicates here.In all there are 3 different categories of motorbike, based on the size of its engine - moped, learner motorbike and standard motorbike. Depending on your age and current licences it may be possible to start riding straight away.MopedThe smallest of the 3 categories, a moped is defined as a bike with an engine size of 50cc or less, weighing under 250kg and being able to go no faster than around 30mph. If you have a full car driving licence that was received before February 2001 you can start riding mopeds straight away. Anyone else - aged 16 and over - will need to first pass their Compulsory Basic Training (which I will go into later), and have already passed their driving theory test.Learner MotorbikesLearner bikes are motorbikes or scooters with an engine size up to 125cc and a power output of 11kW. You must be at least 17 years of age, have a provisional motorcycle licence and have passed your CBT to be allowed to ride a 125cc motorbike.Standard MotorbikesThe next stage for the learner biker is to move on to the full size motorbike. You will need to have first passed your CBT and theory tests and then you can move onto the full practical road test.Once you have done all this you may still be limited in the size of bike you can ride. For example, if you are under 21 you will be restricted to bikes with a power of under 25kW and a power/weight ratio of no more than 0.16kW/kg (your instructor will be able to explain what this means in practice).Compulsory Basic Training (CBT)No matter what your age, any rider wanting to legally ride a bike larger than a moped will need to pass their CBT. The CBT consists of a series of theoretical and practical lessons, usually all done on the same day, taking you through the basics of stopping, starting, turning and generally all you need to know to get on the road safely. You will likely first have to try out the manoevres in a car park, before moving onto the roads where your instructor will be looking for you to demonstrate these skills and general road safety and awareness.Once your CBT is completed, you will have two years to ride freely with 'L' plates, giving you plenty of time to prepare yourself for the full test. Now this can be one of the riskiest times for learner motorbikers - many young riders will be tempted to ride around like they're in a race, which with little experience can be disastrous. The best riders should be constantly looking at how to improve their safety awareness. This can be anything from wearing the right clothing to looking for specific courses where you can get professional and expert training. Your instructor or examiner will no doubt be able to point you in the right direction.

Some of us have been burnt very badly when it came to returning a hire bike to the company which was so friendly to begin with. But when it comes to motorcycles for hire, you have to take into consideration the time it takes to sort out the repairs, the trips back and forth to the shop, dealer and/or detailers and also the time the bike is being repaired and is forced to be off the road. Also, parts can be very scarce especially for new motorcycles. So, how can you avoid not being charged for the excess premium?Let's first define what excess is. Insurance Excess on your rental motorbike is what the motorcycle hirer is liable for in case something happens with the motorbike. But motorcycles are not like cars. If you were to drop a fully faired sports motorbike from a stand still position, the damage would usually be around $3,000-$8,000. And there is very little you can do about it. The fibreglass or plastic fairing must be intact for those high speeds. If there is a single crack in the fairing, the bike is deemed unsafe as the fairing rattles and snaps off other parts at higher speeds.Frame sliders, crash bars or otherwise known as Oggy Knobs prevent cosmetic damage and are quite good when it comes to stand-still drops and/or slow wipe-outs. However, when it comes to higher speeds, the prevention is quite minimal. But even though these bars minimise the damage, they are still quite expensive themselves. For a cheap pair of crash bars you would be paying between $150 and $200 for the pair. After every drop, these would have to be replaced. So, what counts towards the damages for the insurance excess?1. Any scratches which cannot be buffed.2. Any damages to the motorbike cosmetics3. Excessive tyre wear (such as burn-outs)4. Gear damage5. Breach of contractSo what can you do to avoid paying excess on the insurance premium? Well, treat the bike as if it was your own. When you first take possession of the motorbike, make sure you spend some time getting used to it. Take it around the block and practice basics. Stay away from 3-point turns or U-turns until you are absolutely confident you know how the bike handles in such positions. One of the easiest ways to drop a motorbike is whilst doing a U-Turn on the intersection. An average sports motorbike weighs from 200kg to 260kg (including the fuel). Once you lose the balance, there is no stopping it from hitting the gravel. Do not try to turn the bike on a sloping road as this will increase the chances of you dropping it.Each and every motorbike is different. Every sports motorcycle handles differently. If you are used to riding a cruiser, please spend extra time getting used to the different riding position. All motorbikes have slightly different riding positions. It takes time to get used to the motorbike, and this time is very precious as it can save your life in the long run.

Many accessory shops make a business out of it by knowing something about motorbike restoration. Very few have mastered this art and crave for perfection in the field of motorbike restoration. Motorbike Restoration - Art of Re-creating a BabyThe three basic things for any motorbike restoration project are:

The engine

The frame

Manufacturer's parts book

Consider your bike like a baby. Imagine you had a chance at re-creating a baby, motorbike restoration is a bit like having the opportunity to re-create a perfect baby. Consider the engine and frame to be the heart of the baby. The parts book which has the exploded diagrams is the baby's heart. This is where the craftsmanship of a motorbike restorer adds value. With strong expertise in the field of restoration, you will find that a restorer will understand the internal dynamics of a bike. Then with good quality craftsmanship you can ensure that all the parts of the bike are mechanically polished and replaced. With an end to end quality check, your bike will be superior to showroom quality.Top 10 Motorbike Restoration Tips from the experts:

Get your motor cleaned and if it is older enough, get it re-built

The bright metal parts have to be mechanically polished

Examine your frame for cracks, twists, acid damage. Get the welding proper if needed

Get your frame dry assembled along with the cleaned or newly re-built engine

Go for stainless steel bolts since cadmium bolts will rust under dampen conditions

Replace every nut and bolt for every section of the bike except the engine and frame

Check your forks for wear and tear. Your forks should also be straight

Replace your shock absorbers if needed. This must be easy as shocks for all brands are easily available in the market

Replace your tyres if needed, preferably with a modern one which is made in the same country

After restoration, make sure that you ride your bike. Without riding your bike and checking the quality of the restoration, you will have to restore the bike again sooner rather than later

These are the basic things which need to be considered when a motorbike is restored. Anyone can restore a bike with these tips. But restoring the motorbike with an art of perfection needs an expert. If the motorbike restoration is done perfect, you will be flashed backed into the past where you and your bike were young. After all, you can see the value of your motorbike increasing faster than your stocks!
